Mir Jafar
Genre           Theatre
Writer       Bratya Basu
Director       Azhar Alam

The play Mir Jafar unravels the “Untold history of Bengal of 1757 to 1764. Nawab Siraj-ud-Daula fought gallantly but lost the battle of Plassey betrayed by his own commander Mir Jafar thus earning him the title of ‘universal betrayer’. The narrative delves deep into this crucial period of history to unfold the gradual but firm invasion of the East India Company into Bengal and the catastrophic end of a divided dynasty in a bid to dominate Bengal even at the cost of losing their freedom to a foreign power. Thus making Mir Jafar question “Why only me being branded as a betrayer, when the very fabric of society was based on this, each betraying one another in a bid to salvage their kingdom?”
